- Sump Pumps | Brayton Plumbing
Sump pumps Sump pumps protect your basement and crawl space by redirecting water away from your home to prevent damage. Most main sump pumps are hardwired into your electrical system or plugged into a standard outlet. Many systems also include a battery backup, ensuring the pump continues to operate during power outages or heavy storms. The backup can also assist the main pump if water levels rise too quickly, helping prevent overflow and keeping your home safe and dry. Types of Sump Pumps Sump pumps come in two main types: pedestal and submersible. A pedestal sump pump is mounted above the sump pit, making it easy to access for maintenance and testing. A submersible sump pump sits inside the sump pit, remaining out of sight while it operates. The sump pit, often lined with a plastic well, acts as a collection basin for excess water. Typically dug into the lowest point of the basement floor and extending two feet or more in depth, the pit holds water until the pump safely redirects it away from your home. sump pumps in action During a rainstorm, groundwater around your home is directed into a perimeter drain system, which channels the water through perforated pipes into the sump pit and well. When water reaches a preset level, a float switch activates the sump pump, which safely redirects the water to a storm drain, dry well, or another outdoor area. Many sump pumps also feature battery-powered alarms to alert you if the pump is malfunctioning or overwhelmed, helping prevent potential flooding. To ensure your system is ready, test your sump pump regularly by pouring a bucket of water into the pit and confirming it pumps out the water and shuts off properly. Annual cleaning and inspection are also recommended to keep your sump pump in optimal working condition.
- Trenchless Water Main | Brayton Plumbing
Trenchless water Main replacement What is Trenchless Water Line Replacement? Trenchless pipe bursting is a modern solution for replacing underground water lines, sewer pipes, and drain systems—without the mess of digging long trenches. Using advanced equipment, plumbers access the damaged pipe through small entry points, making the process fast, clean, and highly efficient. There are two primary trenchless methods: Pipe Bursting: A new pipe is pulled through the existing one, breaking apart the old pipe as it goes. Pipe Lining: A resin-coated liner is inserted into the current pipe and cured in place, creating a seamless, long-lasting replacement. Both options minimize disruption to your yard, landscaping, driveways, and sidewalks, making them excellent choices for sewer line repairs, water line replacements, and perimeter drain work. Trenchless water main replacement follows the same principle—using specialized equipment to burst the old pipe or reinforce it with a durable liner. The result is a faster, cleaner, and often more cost-effective alternative to traditional open-trench excavation. The Replacement Process Inspection: A video camera is used to identify corrosion, cracks, blockages, or burst sections in the water line. Access Points: Small entry holes are created at each end of the pipe to reach the damaged line. Installation: Using either pipe bursting or pipe lining, a new, durable pipe is installed along the same path. Restoration: The access points are backfilled and cleaned up, leaving your yard and landscaping virtually untouched. Most trenchless replacements are completed in less than a day, saving you time, money, and unnecessary disruption. Why Use Trenchless Technology? Trenchless plumbing isn’t just efficient—it’s smart. Here’s why homeowners and professionals prefer it: Minimal Excavation: No need to tear up your yard, driveway, or patio. Cost-Effective: Reduced repair costs and fewer expenses for landscaping restoration. Durable Materials: HDPE and galvanized steel resist corrosion and root intrusion. Eco-Friendly: Less soil disruption and a smaller carbon footprint. Versatile: Ideal for sewer line replacement, water main repairs, and burst water line fixes. Repair without the mess. Whether you’re facing damaged water lines, sewer issues, or low water pressure, trenchless technology delivers a cleaner, faster, and long-lasting solution. The Best Material to Repipe a Home in Greater Vancouver If you choose to repipe your home, cross-linked polyethylene (PEX) has become the new industry standard. This plastic piping is more cost-effective than copper, lighter, easier to install, and extremely durable—often lasting for decades. When a premium option is needed, we use high-quality Wirsbo PEX tubing. The main challenge with repiping is the overall cost. Even skilled DIYers still require a full inspection, the right materials, and specialized tools. Our plumbing team has extensive experience repiping homes and businesses of all types, so you can feel confident you’re in good hands. Call anytime to discuss the details and determine what repiping your home would involve.
